Culture, Identity and Inclusion... in a turbulent world.

The D'Arcy McGee Summer School returns to Carlingford on 26–27 August 2026. This years Summer School will explore Culture, Identity and Inclusion. At a time when democratic societies are being tested by polarisation, conflict, disinformation and exclusionary politics, the summer school will examine how belonging is shaped, contested and renewed. It will ask how cultures evolve, how identities can coexist within shared civic frameworks, and how inclusion here on the island of Ireland can move beyond rhetoric to lived reality.

Rooted in Carlingford’s historic link with Thomas D’Arcy McGee and Canada, the programme will use that connection as the entry point into a wider contemporary conversation about pluralism, democracy and the future of living together.
