Brigid of Faughart Festival: Pilgrimage Walk from The Hill of Faughart to Dundalk

Come join in on the iconic Day 1 of Brigid’s Way Celtic Pilgrimage.


Starting at St Brigid’s Holy Well on the Hill of Faughart, the route leads down to her Shrine and ancient stones. Then meander in community with like-hearted walkers through Kilcurry and Toberona. Finish by walking through the countryside meadows to Brigid’s stream in Sally Cox’s Lisnawilly Estate, Dundalk.


This route is the inaugural part of the 9 Routes 9 Months Brigid’s Way Celtic Pilgrimage 2026. There will be ritual and ceremony including a Brigid Water Blessing, storytelling of her myths and legends and fascinating history of this wonderful part of Ireland's Ancient East.


Your guides for this special day will be Dr. Karen Ward, co-rediscoverer of this ancient route (with Dolores Whelan, founder of the Brigid of Faughart festival) and Siobhán Madden, eco-artist and nature trail facilitator.


Contribution: €25.00 - to go to the upkeep of Brigid's Way Pilgrimage & the Brigid of Faughart Festival


Preparations: Please bring a packed lunch and a water bottle. Wear waterproof shoes/boots & all-weather clothes. You will need a MODERATE level of fitness.

This event is part of The Brigid of Faughart Festival 2026. The festival celebrates Brigid of Faughart as Ireland’s matron Saint and pre-Christian Celtic Goddess and her birthplace of Faughart, where the story of Saint Brigid began.
