Bank Holiday Monday 4th August @12.00pm - Landlords, Linen and Lunch

Enjoy an historical walk through Ravensdale Village during the 18th century: listen to the history of the Linen Industry. View many of the historic buildings of this planted village e.g., hotel, Courthouse, dispensary, bleaching greens and factory. Afterwards, enjoy your picnic under the trees in the walled gardens at Anaverna House.

Details:

Meet at Coillte Barrier in Ravensdale Park (beside South Lodge A91 YP26) at 11.50 for registration. Suitable for families. The 3 kms terrain is on roadway and footpaths throughout. Bring a picnic and a rug to sit on. Wear warm clothes and bring rain gear (just in case) Tea and coffee are provided.

Sunday 10th August @1.30pm - The Poet's Trail to Urney

Walk through the planted village of Forkhill: visit the kissing stone, the hanging bridge and the peace park. Celebrate the life and death of Peadar O' Doirnín, poet and teacher at Urney ancient graveyard. Listen to his poetry.

Meet at Larkin's Pub, BT35 9RP Forkhill. Terrain; Village paths and rivertrails. 2 hours easy walking. Suitable for families.

Sunday 17th August @1.00pm - Foraging and Folklore - customs and cures.

Walk through ancient tracks and trails, foraging in Nature's Bounty as we go. Hear of Lúanasa traditions as we journey through stunning countryside. Discover Bulans and Limekilns, and dance at the crossroads.

Meet at Grange Old Churchyard A91 PTKF. This is a 5 km circular walk with some inclines. Suitable for Families.

Sunday 24th August @1.30pm - The Ancient Mass Path Loop

A journey through time. Walk in the footsteps of our ancestors at Ravensdale, to an ancient bronze age settlement. Hear tales of survival, visit booley huts, lazy beds and sweathouses, the saunas of yesteryear.

Details:

Meet at Ravensdale graveyard. Walk on tracks and trails throughout. The route is moderately difficult with some inclines. A good level of fitness is necessary. Bring a snack. Suitable for families 8 +

Sunday 31st August @ 2.00pm - The Anaverna Loop

Walk through the tranquil woodlands of Anaverna to the Smugglers Path, walking in the footsteps of Cú Chulainn. Hear how the Poc Fáda began, dance around the stone circle and view the Famine Fields and hidden Mass Rock.

Details:

Meet at the Old Post Office, Ravensdale, A91NW18. This is a circular 2 hour walk on woodland and grass tracks with some road inclines. Easy to moderate terrain. Suitable for families.

Note: for all walks (apart from Activator Training) boots, raingear, suncream and water are necessary. All walks are family friendly. No dogs on any walks. Walking poles are helpful. Routes may change due to weather. No jeans or runners. The leader may not allow walkers with unsuitable gear.


Should walkers have a condition that impedes their mobility, please inform the leader in confidence.
