When her trial is adjourned for the holidays, New York attorney John Sargent takes pity on shoplifter Lee, who is facing a lonely Christmas in prison. He arranges her release on bail, and on discovering that their hometowns are a few miles apart in Indiana, the pair strikes a temporary truce that puts them on the road home together for the holidays, finding love along the way…

Directed from a screenplay by Preston Sturges, and featuring the first pairing of Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray, four years before they appeared together in Double Indemnity, this charming Christmas comedy offers a touching and believable story of romance and redemption. Remember The Night is an understated Christmas gem!
