Drogheda is set to welcome leading voices in politics, academia and civic life this May for the inaugural Drogheda Civic Trust Summer School 2026, a landmark event exploring Ireland’s place in a rapidly changing world.


Taking place at St. Peter’s Church of Ireland Conference Centre, the Summer School opens on Friday, 8th May, with a high-profile evening panel titled “Shared Horizons – Building the Future Together.” This flagship session will bring together a distinguished lineup of speakers including Ivan Yates, Peadar Tóibín T.D., Ged Nash T.D., and Matthew O’Toole MLA, promising a lively and thought-provoking discussion on the future of Ireland, North–South relations, and broader European challenges.


The momentum continues into Saturday morning, 9th May, with a compelling panel discussion on “The European Union – Opportunities and Challenges in a Changing World.” Convened by the Mayor of Drogheda, Cllr Michelle Hall, the session will feature expert insights from Professor Deirdre Heenan, Minister Thomas Byrne T.D., Professor Dan O’Brien and Dr Cathal Berry, offering attendees a unique opportunity to engage with some of the most pressing issues shaping Europe today.


Organised by Drogheda Civic Trust, the Summer School aims to foster meaningful dialogue between policymakers, thought leaders and the public, under the theme “Shared Horizons: Building the Future Together.”


This inaugural event is expected to attract a wide audience from across the region and beyond, providing a vibrant forum for discussion, networking and fresh perspectives.
