This year as part of our Leanbh Festival for children, young people and families, Droichead Arts Centre's Spooks Parade in partnership with Kada Ka Boom Arts is set to light up the ancient streets of Drogheda with dance moves and groovy grooves, as it makes its way right through the heart of the town. Expect sequences and glitter balls, frills and way over the top clash of discotheque colours as the gathering of schools and community groups get down to the real beat on the street under the main barbican of groove itself, St. Laurences Gate. Samhain will have its say and inevitably, have its way.
A participative collaborative cross community arts project, with 5 primary schools, Droichead Youth Theatre, musicians/percussionists, 150 children, across Drogheda and East Meath, including Aston Village ETNS; Presentation Primary; Mell National School, St Josephs National School, and Gaelscoil an Bhradáin Feasa. Under the Artistic Direction of Kieran Gallagher, from Kadakadboom Arts, the artistic team of of Vivienne Byrne, Yvonne Dowd Gardiner, Darrin Finnegan, and Breda Marron, and choreographer Tracey Martin, will work with schools over the next few weeks to create the parade.
They are also reaching out to families to join them on the night in scary disco costumes, and walk at the back of the parade.
